Roseworthy Equine Centre
This Project creates the infrastructure required for a world class equine centre with an international standard Equine Arena, equestrian complex and recreational equine facility. Approximate cost of the project $ 32-39 M (could be changed subject to feasibility study).The Project proposes also a tourist facility as a part of the complex.
Proposed location is Roseworthy.
A Roseworthy location would provide an access to Roseworthy Campus and state-of-the-art equine health facility which provides a high level of expertise in equine medicine, surgery, sports medicine and reproduction.
The project will focus on 4 major areas of development.
1. Indoor Arena with up to 5,000 seats;
2. Outdoor areas: up to 5 dressage arenas, show-jumping and cross-country courses, training and stabling, temporary horse yards;
3. Accommodation: 150 powered sites, large facilities block, Café;
4. Administration area with 3 meeting/ training rooms
A boost to the equine industry in the area already so close to the educational equine hospital will boost the stature of the location for the Equine industry, improving tourism and international students wishing to study.
The horseracing industry in SA, contributes more than $400M in value added contribution to gross state product. The Barossa Region has a rich cultural and historical affinity with horses and strong growing equine industry.
SA members of horse clubs and associations reported an average expenditure of $6,525 (in 2000) on their horses and horse riding activities in the year. Spending on horses in the Barossa Region is conservatively estimated at $38.2 million annually.
