China solidifies its spot as Australia’s number one wine export destination

China spent over half a billion dollars on Australian wine in 2016 according to an article by the Adelaide Advertiser.

Australian wine exports to China are up 40%, and over $60 million clear of second-biggest export market the United States.

The growth in wine exports has been attributed to both the growth in China’s middle class, as well as high rates of growth in the number of people considered ‘ultra-wealthy’.

“The Chinese thirst for Australian wine continues unabated with the country topping the half billion dollar mark for spending on our wine in a calendar year.
